Did Massey ever have any kind of factory support or incentives for racers back in the day? I've seen a picture or two of some Ski-Whiz's in cross country racing action. Just curious.

SRV DAVE;

I have a friend that raced his Massey in the I-500.  I know he got the sled from Massey set-up for the race.  He still has the machine and I think its still in good shape.  I don't know if he got the parts free or not.  I'll check with him next time I see him.

Later---Dick

           Dick, In the book "Snowmobile Racing's Early years 1967-1973 there is a picture of a Ski-Whiz in the I-500. Looks like a 73 Whiz and it's # 196. There is about 4 extra belts attached to the machine and it appears to have a tuned pipe (or something) hanging out the right side of the machine. Maybe it's your friend  Smiley

I just talked to my friend that races a Ski Whiz in the I-500.  He still has the machine and its in great shape.  It just needs a good cleaning job.  Its sat in a shed for many years. The year he races was 1974.  The model was a 304 he said, and it had a 292 JLO engine.  I will find out more from him later.

Yes, please have him tell you more about the machine and the race. Very interesting.
Photos would be excellant.

I am curious why they would have raced a single cylinder machine. I thought that the
fastest machines in each segment were allowed to continue while the stragglers were
sent home. Speed was the key to starting the next day.
