I have worked on the pump and the carb, but it just doesn't want to run on its own. Squirt some gas into the carb and she'll fire up on the first pull. I really don't know which unit is not functioning. It's a Keihin CDX 38-32 carb. Looking for any possible options and solutions............

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have a fuel line problem, Can you draw gas with suction up to the pump? Could be the pickup line in the tank has fallen off..
Good luck!

I've never worked on one of these but is there an impulse line thats used to pump the fuel? I've used zip ties on the ends of impulse lines because they leaked enough to cause the pump to not work.

I just replaced all lines.......... fuel, impulse, and oil, complete with clamps. Even tried pressurizing the fuel tank. Then I put on a squeeze bulb primer. The fuel goes into the pump outlet, but after that, you can't squeeze the bulb anymore. Took the pump apart three times and the carb twice. Checked and cleaned the diaphragms, seals, gaskets, jets, ports, and anything else that has an opening in it. Everything appears to be in order. If I keep spraying fuel into the carb, I can throttle it up, but as soon as I quit, it dies after burning up the spray. Something isn't right, but I don't know what. I really don't think it's the crank seals, but I'm just not sure. It's also possible that a previous owner unknowingly did something to it that I can't see or find. I'm about ready to find a new carb for it, but I have no idea what would fit on it.

I finally got the thing to run. The previous owner had the impulse and fuel lines crossed. He sold it to me for a couple of reasons, one being that he said it wouldn't run and "needed a new carb". In a desperate search for a solution to get it to run, I finally decided to switch the lines. I saw the fuel flow into the carb and knew I'd solved the problem. It fired right up on the first pull of the rope. Neither manual that I have shows a picture of the line connections, so there was no way to know they were incorrectly connected. There was just nothing else to try............ so I did it!! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
Thanks to those of you who offered advice and assistance. It is truly appreciated. Smiley Smiley Smiley Wink

I'll have to fight my daughter for it!!! Wink Wink Wink We got it for her to learn on. But, being that I'm retired and she's in school all day, I think I can slide a few rides in!!! Now, I have to work on the hood. She's requested "red and green". So, back into the shop tomorrow!!! But, it's still a great feeling to bring something back from the dead. Grin Grin Grin
